We recently returned from a vacation to an idyllic place. Such a trip allows for retrospection and fresh ideas. This trip gave us even more. We met up with friends who gave our time there meaning and an enhanced awareness of who we are and why we travel. We met them many years ago while on a vacation, stayed in touch, and with minimal effort, shared our lives with each other for a few days. It was, in fact, idyllic.
We saw beautiful places, learned the history of those places, and remembered what it means to travel and open your mind. It had been a few years since we took a vacation; we tend to think we live in a perfect place, so why leave? Being content where you call home changes your mindset when traveling. It enables you to enjoy the experience, but also ultimately know the home you will be returning to is, for lack of a different word, idyllic.
I woke up this morning with this word swimming around my head. I find myself thinking back to our days filled with adventures, our kindred and special time with our friends, and the chance we had to look at who we are and where we belong, and once more dwell on the blissful awareness that our lives here are fulfilling, enjoyable and meaningful. In fact, idyllic.
